After flying high against the DME Academy Blue DME Academy last Monday, the Downey Christian Patriots came back down to earth. Downey Christian was the victim of a rough 67-44 loss at the hands of Central Pointe Christian Academy National on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, Downey Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 244th, while Central Pointe Christian Academy National is ranked second).
Among those leading the charge was Gloribel Rodriguez, who scored nine points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Emely Rodriguez, who scored six points along with seven rebounds.
Something new happened on Wednesday as Rodriguez saw her first action of the season, playing 12 minutes against Downey Christian. Rodriguez made the most of the opportunity, scoring nine points along with two steals. A few more games like that and she might be seeing even more time going forward.
Downey Christian has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-15 record this season. As for Central Pointe Christian Academy National, their win bumped their record up to 23-3.
Downey Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Central Pointe Christian Academy National, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 60-44 win vs. Southeastern Prep Academy on the 10th.
