A feisty cat fight will be fought as Petal Panthers challenge North Pike Jaguars at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Petal has three straight victories, North Pike has 12 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Petal gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against Greene County as Petal made off with a 12-5 win. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Morgan Taylor was incredible, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Gracie Drinkwine was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, North Pike scored the most runs they've had this season on Thursday, but it wasn't enough. They took a 13-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of Brandon.
Ellyn Williams was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three doubles, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Savanna Hanks, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Even though they lost, North Pike kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in four consecutive matches.
Petal pushed their record up to 7-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for North Pike, their loss dropped their record down to 0-10.
Petal took their win against North Pike in their previous meeting back in February by a conclusive 10-3. Will Petal repeat their success, or does North Pike have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
