Organ Mountain has gone a perfect 10-0 against Las Cruces recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Knights are taking a road trip to face off against the Bulldawgs at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Organ Mountain is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Alamogordo, who was ranked fifth at the time (Organ Mountain was ranked 17th). The Knights were the clear victors by an 11-3 margin over the Tigers on Thursday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Ariyah Cordova spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits and racked up six Ks. Those earned runs were her first of the season.
At the plate, Caillin Reyes was excellent, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Katrina Saenz also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Meanwhile, Las Cruces entered their tilt with Gadsden on Thursday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 12-1 win.
Kaia Renteria made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Renteria was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zaysha Hawkins, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Erica Silva was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple.
Las Cruces hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive contests.
Las Cruces' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-3. As for Organ Mountain, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4-1 record this season.
