Western Alamance fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 21-19 win over Person on Friday.
Western Alamance can attribute much of their success to James Newton, who rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries. Newton was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 67 yards. Evan Kuehnel also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Southern Alamance's win was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 8-1. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 8-1 Southern Nash and 7-2 Williams (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 75% over those games). As for Western Alamance, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.
