Marshall is 8-2 against the Pirates since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Marshall Mavericks will head out on the road to challenge the Pine Tree Pirates at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with seven consecutive losses for Marshall and five for the Pirates.
Last Friday, Marshall came up short against the Bobcats and fell 54-44.
Despite the loss, Marshall had strong showings from Alyssa Helton, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds and two steals, and Jakairi Blacknell, who scored 14 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Helton has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Pine Tree was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 49-44 to the Bobcats. Pine Tree has not had much luck with the Bobcats recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Marshall has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-22 record this season. As for Pine Tree, they dropped their record down to 11-16 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road.
Marshall was taken down by the Pirates 64-36 when the teams last played back in January. Can Marshall avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
