In what's become a running theme this season, the Phoenix Country Day Eagles gave their fans yet another huge victory on Tuesday. They blew past Veritas Prep 64-27 on the road. The victory was nothing new for Phoenix Country Day as they're now sitting on eight straight.
Olivia Owens was her usual excellent self, shooting 5-for-10 from downtown and dropping a double-double on 27 points and ten rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Phoenix Country Day's points. Another player making a difference was Aila Kaibara, who scored 15 points along with three steals.
Despite the defeat, Veritas Prep saw an underclassman step up: Valeria Castaneda scored 14 points along with two steals. Jaz Cobb was another key contributor, scoring four points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Veritas Prep struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Phoenix Country Day racked up 12 assists.
Phoenix Country Day's win bumped their record up to 16-3. As for Veritas Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.
Phoenix Country Day will be playing at home against the Spartans at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Scottsdale Preparatory Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 142nd, while the Eagles are ranked 20th). As for Veritas Prep, they will head out on the road to face off against the Scorpions at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Red Rock comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 19 points in their last four games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
