Vasquez is on an eight-game streak of home losses (dating back to last season), Hamilton a nine-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change. The Vasquez Mustangs will take on the Hamilton Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Vasquez comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 12 points in their last seven games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
Last Friday, Vasquez suffered a tough 34-12 defeat at the hands of Desert Christian Academy.
Vasquez's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Landon Brock, who threw for 281 yards and a touchdown, and Anthony Escobedo who picked up 153 receiving yards and a touchdown. Escobedo was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 69 yards.
Hamilton might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 56-6 to Whittier Christian, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Hamilton was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-6.
The losing side was boosted by William Hamlett, who rushed for 182 yards and a touchdown.
The team's defense also tried their best in the loss by holding Whittier Christian to a paltry 244 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Hamilton's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out three times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Angel Medina and his two sacks.
The losses dropped both teams to an identical 0-8.
Vasquez ended up a good deal behind Hamilton when the teams last played back in October of 2022, losing 40-22. Will Vasquez have more luck at home instead of on the road?
