The St. Joseph Academy Bloodhounds will head out on the road to take on the Economedes Jaguars at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. St. Joseph Academy has given up an average of 44 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 59-15, which was the final score in St. Joseph Academy's tilt against Regents on Friday. The Bloodhounds have struggled against the Knights recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Despite their loss, St. Joseph Academy saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Gavin Cisneros, who threw for 242 yards and two TDs, and also rushed for 93 yards, was perhaps the best of all. A healthy portion of Cisneros' aerial production (126 yards to be exact) went to Andre Cristiano.
Meanwhile, Economedes put another one in the bag last Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Pace 52-20. Fans of the Jaguars have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.
Economedes' win came from a few key players St. Joseph Academy will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Carlos Garcia, who rushed for 114 yards and a pair of scores on only 12 carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 57 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Rey Luna was another key rusher, rushing for 91 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Economedes was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 594 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
St. Joseph Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Economedes, their win bumped their record up to 4-0.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. St. Joseph Academy has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 228 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Economedes struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 417.5 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for St. Joseph Academy against Economedes when the teams last played back in September of 2024, as the team secured a 51-21 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bloodhounds since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
