The West Orange Mountaineers can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They enjoyed a cozy 66-47 win over Newark Academy. Given West Orange's advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 14th, while Newark Academy is ranked 101st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kyley Gary-Grayson was her usual excellent self, scoring 29 points along with six steals. Those 29 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Anaya Karriem, who scored four points along with six rebounds and four blocks.
West Orange's win bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Newark Academy, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.
West Orange's road trip will continue as they head out to face Rumson-Fair Haven at 2:00 p.m. on January 13th. Rumson-Fair Haven will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for Newark Academy, they will be playing at home against Bloomfield at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Bloomfield is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
