Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Ripley Tigers walked away with it. They snuck past Sheffield with a 12-8 win on Friday. The victory was just what Ripley needed coming off of a 45-15 defeat in their prior contest.
Ripley can attribute much of their success to Omarion Pitts, who rushed for 79 yards and two touchdowns. Ripley also got a significant boost from Sammie Smith, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 93 yards.
The team lost despite holding Ripley to a paltry 201 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Sheffield's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out three times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Issiah Lackey and Jaylon Smith who racked up four sacks between them.
Ripley's victory bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Sheffield, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-3.
Ripley will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Covington at 7:00 p.m. on November 10th. Covington is coming into the game hot, having won their last nine games. Sheffield does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
