Winters and Durham are an even 4-4 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. The Warriors will be playing at home against the Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Winters has given up an average of 8.7 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Wednesday just wasn't the day for Winters' offense. They came up short against Colusa on Wednesday, falling 14-0. The Warriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Durham hadn't done well against Willows recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Trojans put the hurt on the Honkers with a sharp 11-2 victory. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by six runs or more this season.
Sadie Sjolund made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Sjolund was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ashley Spence, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Trinity Kolu was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Durham kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Willows only managed eight hits.
The win made it two in a row for Durham and bumps their season record up to 9-5-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Winters, their loss dropped their record down to 6-8.
Everything went Winters' way against Durham in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Winters made off with a 14-1 win. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
