The Holy Redeemer Royals will head out to take on the Tunkhannock Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Holy Redeemer has five straight wins, Tunkhannock has nine straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Holy Redeemer had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Hanover Area on Friday. The Royals' pitcher stepped up to hand the Hawkeyes a 12-0 shutout. The game marked the Royals' most dominant victory of the season so far.
Holy Redeemer let Cody Quaglia and Kayden Stevenson run wild. Quaglia scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Stevenson scored two runs while going 2-for-3. What's more, Stevenson posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Sam Shovlin also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Holy Redeemer was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hanover Area only posted a batting average of .235.
Meanwhile, while it was Tunkhannock who put the first runs on the board on Wednesday, it was Wyoming Area who put up more. The Tigers lost 16-1 to the Warriors.
Tunkhannock saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Josiah Parr, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Tunkhannock's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Holy Redeemer, their win bumped their record up to 5-0.
Tunkhannock's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Holy Redeemer has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .472. It's a different story for Tunkhannock, though, as they've only averaged .360. Will they be able to contain Holy Redeemer's hitters?
Holy Redeemer was able to grind out a solid victory over Tunkhannock when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 5-1. Do the Royals have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
