Johnson is 9-1 against SA Roosevelt since February of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. Johnson played in conference for the first time last Friday and they got just the result they we're looking for. They came out on top against Brandeis by a score of 65-55. Given the Jaguars' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 113th, while the Broncos are ranked 419th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Johnson's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jera Salters, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards. Another player making a difference was Sara Mcfarlin, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 boards.
Johnson was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in November.
Meanwhile, SA Roosevelt came up short against Reagan last Friday and fell 33-20.
Johnson will have to contain Maddie Castillo as she made an impact in SA Roosevelt's last game. She posted seven points and three steals. That was a full 35% of SA Roosevelt's points, marking the third time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points.
SA Roosevelt has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season. As for Johnson, their victory bumped their record up to 16-8.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Johnson has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 28.3 boards per game. However, it's not like SA Roosevelt struggles in that department as they've been averaging 23.2 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for Johnson against SA Roosevelt when the teams last played back in January, as the squad secured a 62-29 win. Does Johnson have another victory up their sleeve, or will SA Roosevelt turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
