The Holy Trinity Tigers will head out to challenge the Westmont Sentinels at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Holy Trinity's win against Rochelle Zell Jewish wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Holy Trinity had just enough and edged out Rochelle Zell Jewish 3-2 on Monday. The victory continues a trend for Holy Trinity in their matchups with Rochelle Zell Jewish: they've now won six in a row.
Aiden Figueroa was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Westmont, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. Everything went their way against Ida Crown Jewish Academy on Monday as they made off with a 15-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Sentinels, who have now won 19 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
C.J. Balcer made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Nikolai Baldwin and Jerry Vasek did most of the damage at the plate: Baldwin went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and two RBI, while Vasek went 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Ricky Yenkin, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
Westmont was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .345 or higher in 11 consecutive matches.
Westmont pushed their record up to 23-10-1 with the victory, which was their 14th straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Holy Trinity, their record is now 17-9.
Holy Trinity came out on top in a nail-biter against Westmont in their previous meeting on Tuesday, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
