The Cocoa Tigers entered their tilt with the Cocoa Beach Minutemen with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Cocoa took their matchup on the road on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 67-23 victory over Cocoa Beach. Given Cocoa's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 172nd, while Cocoa Beach is ranked 419th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cocoa's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jonise Barcene, who scored 13 points along with seven assists and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Barcene has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Gianna Conklin-Jones, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Cocoa is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. As for Cocoa Beach, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-8.
Cocoa will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Edgewood at 7:00 p.m. Edgewood's defense has only allowed 28.9 points per game this season, so Cocoa's offense will have their work cut out for them. Cocoa Beach's road trip will continue as they head out to face Space Coast at 5:30 p.m. on January 18th.
