The Coronado Cougars entered their tilt with the Harrison Panthers with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Coronado breezed by Harrison at home to the tune of 56-13 on Thursday. With Coronado ahead 27-4 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Coronado had a senior duo take command as Dayshanay Bruner dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds and Bella Martinez scored 20 points along with three steals. Bruner is crushing the block category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sarae Johnson, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nyleen Brown, who scored six points along with six rebounds and two blocks. Monet Brown was another key contributor, scoring five points along with six rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Harrison struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Coronado racked up 13 assists.
Coronado has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-11 record this season. As for Harrison, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-15.
Coronado will head out on the road to challenge Canon City at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Canon City is coming into the game with four straight victories at home, so Coronado is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum. As for Harrison, they will head out on the road to face off against Sand Creek at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday. Sand Creek is on a nine-game streak of home losses, Harrison a 16-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change.
