The South Eugene Axe waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with five straight wins but they left with six. They blew past Willamette 80-60. That 20 points margin sets a new team best for South Eugene this season.
Levi Hawes continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 22 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Calvin Yoder, who scored 11 points.
South Eugene pushed their record up to 8-7 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.0 points per game. As for Willamette, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-14.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Eugene will challenge Sheldon at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Oregon (Sheldon is ranked 65th, while South Eugene is ranked 85th). Willamette won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Roseburg at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. One thing working in Roseburg's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight matchups.
