The Jefferson Davis Academy Raiders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fifth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Curtis Baptist, falling 54-21. While losing is never fun, Jefferson Davis Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 272nd in South Carolina, while Curtis Baptist is ranked 118th in Georgia).
Curtis Baptist was led to victory by Maci Butler and Mia Price. Butler dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds, while Price scored 20 points along with five steals. That's the first time this season that Price scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Abby Coughlin, who scored four points along with six assists.
Jefferson Davis Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Curtis Baptist, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-5.
Jefferson Davis Academy will be playing at home against Holly Hill Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Curtis Baptist won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Community Christian Academy at 6:15 p.m. on January 23rd. Community Christian Academy comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
