Pieper is on a seven-game streak of home wins, while Veterans Memorial is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Pieper Warriors will take on the Veterans Memorial Patriots at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pieper will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 180th, while Veterans Memorial is ranked 14th).
Pieper suffered their closest loss yet this season on Friday. They fell just short of Wagner by a score of 48-46. Pieper has not had much luck with Wagner recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was MAYSON THOMAS, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. He hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for eight straight games. Another player making a difference was AIDAN MADRIGAL, who scored ten points.
Pieper struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Veterans Memorial earned a 41-31 win over Boerne-Champion on Friday.
Pieper's defeat dropped their record down to 17-9. As for Veterans Memorial, their win bumped their record up to 28-1.
Pieper might still be hurting after the 64-39 defeat they got from Veterans Memorial in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Veterans Memorial's Demarion Dennis, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds. Now that Pieper knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
