Basketball Recap: Carthage Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Kaylen Igbokwe and Jakayla Teague

Carthage lost against Chapel Hill back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Carthage Bulldogs took a 52-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chapel Hill Bulldogs. While losing is never fun, Carthage can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 677th, while Chapel Hill is ranked 311th).

Jakayla Teague and Kaylen Igbokwe certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Teague dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Igbokwe dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 boards. The dominant performance also gave Teague a new career-high in assists (four).

Even though they lost, Carthage smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 15 offensive boards in seven consecutive matchups.

Carthage's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-15. As for Chapel Hill, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-8.

Carthage will face off against Gilmer at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Chapel Hill, they will square off against Pine Tree at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pine Tree is on a nine-game streak of home wins, Chapel Hill a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
