The University Trailblazers were the 71-43 winner over the Tri-West Hendricks Bruins when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. University fell 50-38 to Tri-West Hendricks on Thursday. University's loss continues an unfortunate trend for the squad, making it five in a row.
University's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mackenzie Feeney, who scored six points along with 19 rebounds and four steals. Feeney is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last nine games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Grubbs, who scored five points along with 13 rebounds and two steals.
Even though they lost, University smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 33 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Tri-West Hendricks' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lauren Bear, who scored 15 points along with four steals. Bear is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last six games she's played. Atta Garnett was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with six rebounds.
University has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season. As for Tri-West Hendricks, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 12-10 record this season.
University will be playing at home against Tipton at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Tipton is no doubt hoping to put an end to a nine-game streak of away losses. As for Tri-West Hendricks, they will square off against Crawfordsville at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Crawfordsville comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
