The Dieterich Movin Maroons fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Shelbyville Rams on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Rams by a score of 63-60. Dieterich has not had much luck with Shelbyville recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
When it comes to explaining why Dieterich lost, one person who can't be blamed is Miley Britton. Despite the final result, she scored 21 points along with six rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ruby Westendorf, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds.
Leading Shelbyville to victory were Dru Clark and Kenzie Jones. Clark dropped a double-double on 20 points and 21 rebounds, while Jones scored 21 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Clark is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Millie Clark was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with six rebounds.
Dieterich's loss dropped their record down to 17-8. As for Shelbyville, their win bumped their record up to 6-13.
Dieterich's road trip will continue as they head out to face Neoga at 2:30 p.m. on January 15th. Neoga knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully Dieterich likes a good challenge. As for Shelbyville, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Martinsville at 6:00 p.m.
