Noah Dasgupta spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Cascade secured the victory behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Braxton Lewis, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Plainfield fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Mooresville on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 10-5 to the Pioneers. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Quakers, who until this game were averaging 3.52 runs allowed.
Luke Warriner was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed over his last four matches.
On the hitting side, Gavin Lykins made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Plainfield's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 9-10 when he doesn't). Ty White was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run.
Cascade's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Plainfield, their loss dropped their record down to 12-11.
Plainfield's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Cascade has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .449. It's a different story for Plainfield, though, as they've only averaged .353. Will they be able to contain Cascade's hitters?
Cascade suffered a grim 13-2 defeat to Plainfield in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Cadets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
