Basketball Recap: Claysburg-Kimmel Sets Scoring Season-High Against Rockwood

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Claysburg-Kimmel). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Rockwood Rockets 85-55. The win was familiar territory for the Bulldogs who have now won four matches in a row.

Leading Claysburg-Kimmel to victory were Blake Kulick and Brayden Haney. Kulick went 8 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 26 points, while Haney almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine boards. The contest was Haney's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Christian Treon, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 14 points.

Claysburg-Kimmel was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Defeat or not, Rockwood got some senior leadership from Zander Ritenour and Riley Fazenbaker. Ritenour almost dropped a double-double on 25 points and nine rebounds, while Fazenbaker went 7 for 15 en route to 16 points in addition to eight assists and three steals. That was a full 45.5% of Rockwood's points, marking the ninth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tammo Leeferink, who put up four points and five boards.

Claysburg-Kimmel is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.7 points per game. As for Rockwood, their loss was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-14.

Claysburg-Kimmel will challenge Tussey Mountain at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th. As for Rockwood, they will take on Meyersdale at 7:15 p.m. on January 24th. Rockwood is facing Meyersdale at the right time seeing as Meyersdale is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
