Even though the Marietta Blue Devils have not done well against the McEachern Indians recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Marietta narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Indians 49-47. The victory was all the more spectacular given Marietta's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 66th, while the Indians are ranked 11th).
Marietta's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Athena Dews, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Frances Storey, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Marietta has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. As for McEachern, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-9.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing North Paulding the next time they take the court. Marietta will host the Wolfpack at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Indians will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
