San Tan Charter has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on The Arete Prep CHARGERS at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. San Tan Charter will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each match than the last.
Last Friday, San Tan Charter never let their opponents score. They claimed a resounding 73-0 victory over NFL Yet Academy at home. The result was nothing new for San Tan Charter, who have now won four matches by 22 points or more so far this season.
It was another big night for Zayden Neill, who threw for 124 yards and three touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Mike Aguinaga also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, after only eight points in their last match, Arete Prep made sure to put some points up on the board against Coronado on Friday. Arete Prep blew past Coronado, posting a 41-0 victory on the road. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Arete Prep just coasted through the last quarter.
Arete Prep's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Prahlad Rattan, who rushed for 15 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 89 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes. Tj Ottun was another key contributor, rushing for 68 yards and a touchdown.
Their wins bumped San Tan Charter to 7-2 and Arete Prep to 4-5.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: San Tan Charter has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 192.1 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Arete Prep, though, as they've been averaging only 70.9 per game. How will Arete Prep fare against such a dominant running game?
San Tan Charter strolled past Arete Prep when the teams last played back in October of 2021 by a score of 40-22. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Arete Prep's Matthew Mcclelland, who rushed for 72 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 124 yards and a touchdown. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for San Tan Charter to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
