Softball Recap: Cedar Sets Scoring Season-High Against Manti

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cedar). They were the clear victors by a 22-4 margin over the Manti Templars on Wednesday. The Reds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matches by six runs or more this season.

Shaylee Johnson and Hunter Blackner did most of the damage at the plate: Johnson went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI, while Blackner went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits Blackner has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kinzie Hawkins, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Cedar was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .474. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.

Cedar's record is now 18-5. As for Manti, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cedar will challenge Snow Canyon at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Reds' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season. As for Manti, they will square off against North Sanpete at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
