Sweet Home hasn't had much luck against Cascade recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Huskies will head out on the road to square off against the Cougars at 5:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Sweet Home will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Monday, then bounced right back against Philomath on Wednesday. The Huskies put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 14-1 win. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Huskies' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Meanwhile, Cascade had already won 17 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it 18 on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Huskies an 18-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won 16 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Taylor Bays was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up a single walk in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dara Brackett, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April. Pearl Pruett was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double.
Cascade was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .548. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Cascade's record now sits at 20-5. As for Sweet Home, the victory got them back to even at 13-13.
Sweet Home might still be hurting after the 12-2 loss they got from Cascade in their previous matchup last Monday. Can the Huskies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
