Borah is 2-8 against Rocky Mountain since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Borah Lions will face off against the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies at 7:30 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
If Rocky Mountain heads into halftime all tied up, they better play a good second half: that's when Borah took over last week. Borah escaped with a win on Friday against Capital by the margin of a single free throw, 31-30. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Idaho basketball rankings (they are ranked fifth, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 36th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Borah found their leader in sophomore Kya Davis, who posted 11 points and six boards. Another player making a difference was Rylee Hale, who earned seven points.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Rocky Mountain, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They walked away with a 53-41 victory over Centennial on Tuesday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Grizzlies as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Borah better keep an eye on Campbell Wilson. She was instrumental in Rocky Mountain's win, putting up 17 points along with six steals and five assists. That's the most steals Wilson has posted since back in December of 2024. Mckenzie Bybee was another key player, posting eight points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.
Rocky Mountain was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matchups.
The victory made it two in a row for Borah and bumps their season record up to 17-4. As for Rocky Mountain, their record now sits at 13-9.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Borah has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 28.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Rocky Mountain struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Borah took their win against Rocky Mountain when the teams last played back in January by a conclusive 54-31. In that game, Borah amassed a halftime lead of 30-10, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Thursday.
