Sutton waltzed into their game on Friday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. They greeted the New Year with with a 68-54 win over the McCool Junction Mustangs. For Sutton, this counts as revenge for the 57-33 victory McCool Junction walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2023.

Sutton got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Payton Reed out in front who posted 16 points. Another player making a difference was Aidan Jones, who had 15 points.

When it comes to explaining why McCool Junction lost, don't look at Mapieu Kouchinin. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 26 points and 14 rebounds. That was a full 48.1% of McCool Junction's points, marking the seventh time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Mcdonald, who put up nine points and six assists.

Sutton pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.8 points per game. As for McCool Junction, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-3.

Sutton will host Centura at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Centura will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Sutton surely won't give up without a fight. As for McCool Junction, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 60-46 victory against Heartland on the 4th.
