The Johnson County Trojans won the last time they faced the Hancock Central Bulldogs, and things went their way on Tuesday too. Johnson County sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 44-41 victory over Hancock Central.
Johnson County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was S'Riyah Bostick out in front who scored 12 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ziyah Lewis, who scored eight points.
Hancock Central lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Tylecia Tucker, who scored seven points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jaliyah Hargrove, who scored six points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Even though they lost, Hancock Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. This was only their eighth loss (out of eight games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Johnson County's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-4. As for Hancock Central, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-13.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Johnson County's road trip will continue as they head out to face Wilkinson County at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Georgia (Wilkinson County is ranked 393rd, while Johnson County is ranked 388th). As for Hancock Central, they will head out on the road to challenge Georgia Military College at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Georgia Military College is on a six-game streak of home losses, Hancock Central a 12-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change.
