Clio and Goodrich are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2023, but likely not for long. The Mustangs will welcome the Martians at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Clio 2.2, Goodrich 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Goodrich will be up against a hot Clio team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. The Mustangs' pitcher stepped up to hand Brandon a 12-0 shutout on Wednesday. Considering the Mustangs have won four matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Addie Taylor made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, Veronica Tate was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kelcy Sperling, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Goodrich fell victim to Walled Lake Northern and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They came up short against the Knights, falling 8-0. The Martians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Clio's win bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Goodrich, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Clio has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Goodrich struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Clio's way against Goodrich in their previous meeting back in April, as Clio made off with a 10-0 victory. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Martians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
