The Ben Davis Giants and the Brownsburg Bulldogs (ranked 61 and 68 in the MaxPreps national rankings respectively) squared off in a high-profile game. Ben Davis sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 28-25 win over Brownsburg on Friday. The win was familiar territory for Ben Davis who now have six in a row.
Ben Davis got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Thomas Gotkowski out in front who rushed for 60 yards and two touchdowns. Nate Williams did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 85 receiving yards.
Despite the loss, Brownsburg still got an impressive performance from Garrett Sherrell, who rushed for 161 yards and three touchdowns. Sherrell is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last ten games he's played. Corey Smith also helped out as he racked up 105 receiving yards.
Ben Davis' win was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-1. As for Brownsburg, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 9-1.
Ben Davis will head out on the road to face off against Pike at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Pike will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings (they are ranked 45th, while Ben Davis is ranked first). Brownsburg does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
