Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2023 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
For the season, Johnson threw for 3,626 yards and 41 touchdowns. He added 1,508 rushing yards and 25 more scores.

Finishing his career with 14,479 yards of total offense, Johnson broke Brock Berlin's state record in that category that has stood since 1999.
Johnson scored four times in the semifinals to bring his career total to 168 touchdowns (he finished the season with 171), surpassing Nick Brossette's record of 167.
In a 35-21 loss against St. Thomas More (Lafayette) in the championship game, he totaled 457 yards and three touchdowns.
Johnson threw for 300 yards or more five times this fall and ran for 270 in a win over Jesuit (New Orleans).
Projected as a safety at LSU, where he committed in May, Johnson is regarded as one of the top prospects in Louisiana by

Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team.
