D1 District 2 (8 Man) recap Oct. 9, 2012
Howells-Dodge extended the longest winning streak in D1 District 2 (8 Man) this week by beating Guardian Angels Central Catholic, 36-0. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Jaguars.
The Bluejays suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after falling to Howells-Dodge. Guardian Angels Central Catholic had been ranked 14th, but fell to 26 following the defeat.
Mike Speirs' team's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Casey Wisnieski threw for 83 and one touchdown and Brady Brester had 78 yards receiving. On the ground Matthew Gooch chipped in 161 yards. Brandon Wragge helped Howells-Dodge's passing attack out by catching one ball for five yards.
Jesse Faltys made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Jaguars beat Dave Ridder's team. The sophomore forced one fumble and recorded one fumble.
Clarkson/Leigh's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Patriots feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Logan Went has thrown for 286 yards and three touchdowns this season, while Colton Tomka has six catches for 161 yards. Lucas Gurnsey leads the league in rushing with 719 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Howells-Dodge takes on Omaha Nation. As it stands, the Jaguars are in first, while the Chiefs are in fifth.
Clarkson/Leigh took down Cedar Bluffs 68-18 last week, the largest margin of any game. Went threw for 57 yards and one touchdown and ran for 68 yards in the win.
