Highland Prep extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 11 on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-8. They came up short against the ALA - West Foothills Guardians, falling 25-0. The Honey Badgers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Guardians from their previous meeting back in March of 2025.
As for ALA - West Foothills, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 6-5. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
For ALA - West Foothills' part, Jaxson Garvey and Rylan Day were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Garvey tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Day pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Garvey has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Garvey went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Day went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, two triples, and five RBI. Day also scored three runs, which is notable because ALA - West Foothills is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-4 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lucas Brittan, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of ALA - West Foothills' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 3-4 when he doesn't). Will Silvester was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Looking ahead, Highland Prep will take on Yuma Catholic at 3:45 p.m. on April 1. As for ALA - West Foothills, they will challenge Youngker at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Guardians' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Roughriders have averaged an impressive 9.7 runs per game this season.
