The St. Bede Bruins will challenge the Annawan-Wethersfield Titans at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. St. Bede will come into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
On Thursday, St. Bede got the win against Midland by a conclusive 13-1. The result was nothing new for the Bruins, who have now won three matches by 12 runs or more so far this season.
Macy Strauch made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and only one walk). Strauch was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ava Balestri, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Lily Bosnich was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
St. Bede hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Midland struck out seven times.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Annawan-Wethersfield, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Erie-Prophetstown 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Titans have posted since April 30, 2024.
St. Bede's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Annawan-Wethersfield, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
Everything went St. Bede's way against Annawan-Wethersfield when the teams last played back in March of 2023, as St. Bede made off with a 12-5 victory. Does St. Bede have another victory up their sleeve, or will Annawan-Wethersfield turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
