Mexico is 2-8 against Cortland since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Tigers will host the Purple Tigers at 5:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
Cortland will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Mexico extended their winning streak to three on Thursday. The Tigers were the clear victors by an 18-3 margin over Port Byron. Considering the Tigers have won four games by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Evan Hansen made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brayden Mack, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024. Carter Robert was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Mexico was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .379 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, Cortland made sure to put some runs up on the board against Wellsville on Thursday. The Purple Tigers put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 14-8 win. The game marked the Purple Tigers' most dominant victory of the season so far.
Cal Albright was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Albright was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Tristan Milligan was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and one run. Those hits marked the first that he has got this season. Another player making a difference was Caden Albright, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Mexico pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Cortland, the win made it two in a row for them and also bumps their season record up to 4-1.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Mexico has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .522. However, it's not like Cortland struggles in that department as they've averaged .460. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
