The Jena Giants are taking a road trip to take on the Delhi Charter Gators at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Jena is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.
Jena's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over Marksville. Considering the Giants have won 15 games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Cayden Mursch, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Carson Willis was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two RBI and one double.
Jena always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 21 runs the game before, Delhi Charter was a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mangham. The defeat continues a trend for the Gators in their meetings with the Dragons: they've now lost four in a row.
Delhi Charter saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Peyton Fuller, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Jena pushed their record up to 19-7 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Delhi Charter, their loss dropped their record down to 18-10.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Jena hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .344. However, it's not like Delhi Charter struggles in that department as they've averaged .361. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Jena's way against Delhi Charter in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Jena made off with a 12-4 victory. Will the Giants repeat their success, or do the Gators have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
