Softball Recap: Western Hills Takes a Loss

Western Hills had lost three straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 8-21 to make it four. They came up short against the West Jessamine Colts, falling 14-7. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Colts this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-4 back in March.

Makayla Young was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple. Karrington Briscoe was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

As for West Jessamine, they moved to 15-13 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak. The result was nothing new for the Colts, who have now won nine matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

On West Jessamine's side, Michaela Tate made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Tate has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-6 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Paige Hobgood was a standout: she went 3-for-6 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Abigail Myszak, who went 4-for-5 with five RBI and one run.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Western Hills will welcome Montgomery County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wolverines' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Indians have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season. As for West Jessamine, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Bath County at 6:30 p.m. The Wildcats' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Colts' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
