Basketball Recap: South Summit Takes a Loss

South Summit lost against Grantsville back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The South Summit Wildcats were outmatched by the Grantsville Cowboys and fell 69-38. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 58th, while the Cowboys are ranked third).

Despite the loss, South Summit still got an impressive performance from Emma Broadbent, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 17 rebounds. The contest was Broadbent's 25th in a row with at least ten points.

Even though they lost, South Summit smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Grantsville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Avery Allred, who went 7 for 13 en route to 21 points and six steals. Allred is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Baylee Lowder, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 14 points along with six boards and four steals.

South Summit's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 11-5. As for Grantsville, they pushed their record up to 15-0 with the win, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.

South Summit will square off against Morgan at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Morgan has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 210 points over their last three matchups. As for Grantsville, they will face off against Ben Lomond at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Grantsville is facing Ben Lomond at the right time seeing as Ben Lomond is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
