Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 14 more assists than your opponent, a fact the Lewis-Palmer Rangers proved on Wednesday. They came out on top against Air Academy by a score of 62-53. Given Lewis-Palmer's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 38th, while the Kadets are ranked 134th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Lewis-Palmer to victory were Cohen Edmondson and Noah Johnson. Edmondson almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds, while Johnson scored 22 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Johnson has scored all season. Jonas Miller was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with two steals.
Air Academy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Noah Hellem, who scored 22 points, and Max Howery who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 41.5% of Air Academy's points, marking the seventh time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tommy Tygart, who scored five points.
Lewis-Palmer's victory bumped their record up to 13-6. As for Air Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-14.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Cheyenne Mountain the next time they take the court. Lewis-Palmer will host the Red-Tailed Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Kadets will host them at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
