The Cherokee County Warriors had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.4 points), and they went ahead and made it nine on Thursday. They secured a 49-44 W over Jacksonville. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Cherokee County also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2023.
Despite the loss, Jacksonville saw an underclassman step up: Neveah Nicholson scored 15 points along with six rebounds. That's the first time this season that Nicholson scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexis Phillips, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds.
Cherokee County's victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-3. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 31.08 points. As for Jacksonville, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-11.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cherokee County won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Piedmont at 5:30 p.m. on January 12th. Piedmont will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings (they are ranked 229th, while Cherokee County is ranked 63rd). Jacksonville won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Cleburne County at 6:00 p.m. on January 12th. Cleburne County is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
