The Glenbard North Panthers will challenge the Wheaton North Falcons at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Glenbard North will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
Glenbard North will bounce into Tuesday's contest after beating St. Charles North, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Panthers came out on top against the North Stars by a score of 8-5 on Thursday.
The team relied heavily on Alyssa Abderhalden, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple. Another player making a difference was Gianna Frcek, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Glenbard North kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Charles North only managed six hits.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Wheaton North, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They walked away with a 12-7 win over Geneva on Thursday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Falcons needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Wheaton North also got a great performance from Madison Moore as she struck out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Those nine strikeouts gave Moore a new career-high.
At the plate, Makayla Hammer was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Hana Stoner was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Glenbard North's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-5. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Wheaton North, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 20-7.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Glenbard North hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .388. However, it's not like Wheaton North struggles in that department as they've averaged .314. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Glenbard North couldn't quite get it done against Wheaton North in their previous matchup back in April as they fell 3-0. Will the Panthers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
