3A Region 7 recap Oct. 3, 2012
Hazlehurst extended the longest winning streak in 3A Region 7 this week by beating Prentiss, 40-6. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.
Jefferson County moved up to 98 from 125 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Tigers were able to make the jump by beating Crystal Springs 28-0.
Hazlehurst's dynamic duo of Kenneth Coleman and Demetrius Cain proved tough for the Bulldogs to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Coleman threw for 218 yards and two touchdowns and Cain had 116 yards receiving. Aaron Larry helped Hazlehurst's passing attack out by catching two balls for 39 yards.
Devin Voorhies was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 10 carries, he ran for 65 yards as Wilkinson County beat Prentiss. Roosevelt Tolliver also contributed to the rushing game with 42 yards on the ground.
Thanks to the talents of Coleman and Cain the Indians have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Coleman leads the league in passing with 1116 yards, while Cain has rushed for 615 yards this season. The Wildcats' Allenzae Staggers leads the league in receiving yards with 481 on 29 catches.
A big matchup in 3A Region 7 this week will be when Hazlehurst takes on Franklin County. The Indians are currently in second, while the Bulldogs are in third.
Hazlehurst led the league in scoring this week after putting up 40 points on the Bulldogs. Coleman ran for 16 yards in the win.
