Baseball Recap: Hart's Run of Three Straight Wins Now Over

Hart dropped their record down to 11-8 on Saturday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell 5-2 to the Ventura Cougars. The Hawks were not able to make up for their loss to the Cougars from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Hart got a good showing from Malachi Wobrock, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Wobrock gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in March.

On the hitting side, Luke McCarty was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Elias Bernal also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

As for Ventura, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6-1 record this season. The win was nothing new for Ventura as they're now sitting on five straight.

On Ventura's side, Josh Woodworth made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Woodworth has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Ventura let Elijah Burt and Carter Kimble run wild. Burt went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI, while Kimble went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run. Those two doubles gave Kimble a new career-high.

Coming up, Hart will face off against West Ranch at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Ventura, they will square off against Rio Mesa at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
