On Tuesday, the Pickens Blue Flame faced the Greenwood Eagles in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Pickens sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 38-36 win over Greenwood. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Pickens has posted yet this season.
Pickens was led to victory by Ava Owens and Maggie Chambers. Owens scored 13 points along with six steals, while Chambers dropped a double-double on 15 points and 17 rebounds. Owens is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sadie Claire mckinney, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds.
Pickens' victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.3 points per game. As for Greenwood, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-1.
Pickens will look to defend their home court on Friday against Easley at 6:00 p.m. Easley will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while Pickens is ranked 11th). As for Greenwood, they will head out on the road to challenge Berea at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Berea is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.
