Immaculate had lost five straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 4-10 to make it six. They came up short against the Nonnewaug Chiefs, falling 8-1. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Mustangs couldn't push the score so high this time.
Caroline Murray was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Norah Whitmore was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one double.
As for Nonnewaug, the victory was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games.
On Nonnewaug's side, Scarlett Ivey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the most strikeouts Ivey has posted since back in April. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gianna DeLorenzo, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ashlynn Blum, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Looking ahead, Immaculate will square off against Harding at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Presidents have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.18 runs per game on average), something the Mustangs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Nonnewaug, they will face off against Cheshire at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Chiefs 1.5, the Rams 0.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
