The University Bulldogs fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Peak to Peak Pumas on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Pumas by a score of 74-72. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Thursday (61), University still had to take the loss.
Gage Schminke and Connor Weber certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Schminke dropped a double-double on 28 points and 10 rebounds, while Weber dropped a double-double on 24 points and 12 rebounds. Weber scored a full 33.3% of University's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Caden Villarreal was another key contributor, scoring 5 points along with 4 steals.
Peak to Peak's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Grant Boonstra led the charge by scoring 18 points along with 3 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Boonstra, who scored 11 points along with 8 rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for University and nudges their season record down to 0-2. As for Peak to Peak, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. University is on the road again on Tuesday and play against Highland at 7:00 p.m. on December 5th. Hopefully Highland focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Thursday. As for Peak to Peak, they will head out on the road to face off against Silver Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
