Volleyball Recap: Cathedral Catholic Takes Down Westview in a Playoff Battle

Cathedral Catholic had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They came out on top against the Westview Wolverines by a score of 3-1 on Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for the Dons in their matchups with the Wolverines: they've now won four in a row.

While Cathedral Catholic might've won, it sure wasn't easy: Westview scored at least 18 points in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 25-20, 23-25, 25-19.

Cathedral Catholic's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sierra Aswad, who had five digs and four aces. Those four aces gave Aswad a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Samantha Saba, who had five digs and two aces.

Cathedral Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 27-7. As for Westview, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 21-13 record this season.

Cathedral Catholic and Westview are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. After both having extra time off, the Dons and La Jolla Country Day will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Westview, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on San Marcos at 6:00 p.m. on the 8th.
